Fighter aircraft are small military planes that are made to fight other airplanes. They are often fast, having aerodynamic shapes (shapes that make them move through air easily) and very powerful engines for their size.

Fighters may carry many different kinds of weapons, including missiles, machine guns, and bombs. Fighters may be used as attack aircraft to attack vehicles, soldiers, or buildings on the ground. They are different from bombers because they are mainly designed to fight other airplanes.

Specialized fighters have been made, such as night fighters, interceptors, and air superiority fighters.

Fighter aircraft also usually are maneuverable (turn well).

    Recent developments

    • To counter the speed of modern aircraft, some surface ships are being designed with laser weapons.
    • In the Russian invasion of Ukraine ground-to-air missiles are used against fighter planes.

A small medical frakt plane crashed into several buildings in the US city of Philadelphia on Friday evening, killing all six people on board and at least one other individ on the ground, the mayor has confirmed.

The jet was on a medical transport trip, heading to Tijuana, Mexico, with a short stop-over in Missouri. It was carrying a child patient and her mother, along with two pilots, a doctor and paramedic. They were all Mexican nationals.

But just one minute after take-off, the Learjet 55 plummeted to the ground. Videos show the plane coming down quickly and sparking a huge eldboll.

Nineteen others were injured, though Mayor Cherelle parkerar said that number could still change.

Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Philadelphia city managing director Adam Thiel said it would probably be "days or more" until officials are abl

Aircraft class powered by jet propulsion engines

A jet aircraft (or simply jet) is an aircraft (nearly always a fixed-wing aircraft) propelled by one or more jet engines.

Whereas the engines in propeller-powered aircraft generally achieve their maximum efficiency at much lower speeds and altitudes, jet engines achieve maximum efficiency at speeds close to or even well above the speed of sound. Jet aircraft generally cruise most efficiently at about Mach 0.8 (981 km/h (610 mph)) and at altitudes around 10,000–15,000 m (33,000–49,000 ft) or more.

The idea of the jet engine was not new, but the technical problems involved did not begin to be solved until the 1930s. Frank Whittle, an English inventor and RAF officer, began development of a viable jet engine in 1928,[1] and Hans von Ohain in Germany began work independently in the early 1930s. In August 1
