Taking the swaras of ‘Kaushik Dhwanikomal ga’ (or ‘Chandrakaunsshuddha Dha’), Rajeshwari’s five tones bring an idiosyncratic flavour, tied with diffuse tensions. All poorvang swaras are set to their lowest specific position (Sgm), and all uttarang swaras are set to their highest (DNS), with the relief-bringing Re–Pa axis banished throughout. The resulting scale presents significant challenges when it comes to stable melodic resolution: possessing the rare property of ‘fragmentation’ (i.e. at least half its swaras are ‘detached’, with no swara 7 semitones above or below them: in this case ga–Dha–Ni) – as well as a curious ma–Nitritone, prominent in the droning harmonium tones of Salamat Ali Khan’s rendition (live from an Amritsar Gurdwara, and prefaced by a speech by the Ustad on multi-faith tolerance). Raageshwari attended the Auxilium Convent High School.[1] As a teenager, Raageshwari made her film debut with the 1993 film Aankhen (1993). She subsequently appeared in Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Zid (1994) and Dil Kitna Nadan Hai. Raageshwari signed a deal with Coca-Cola to do a series of concerts all over India.[2] In 2000, Raageshwari and her father collaborated on another album, Y2K Saal Do Hazaar. Raageshwari was suffering from malaria, while shooting for the video "Ikki chikki chikita." The album was released with a concert on the eve of the year 2000. Just a week after the concert, Raageshwari was diagnosed with Bell's palsy,[3] which left her with a paralysed left side of the face and a slur in her voice.
