ARCHERY
First Medallist In Archery World Cup
Tan Silie won the men’s recurve in the Indoor Archery World Cup held in Singapore in Dec 2012. The indoor competition was with a distance of 18m. Tan was an NTU second-year student.
Most Bemedalled Archer
The most bemedalled archer to date is Sam Tan Pek Hoon. Her list of achievements includes 5 silvers, 2 golds and 1 bronze from the SEA Games in 1977 and 1983.
First Gold Medallist In An International Tournament
Bill Wee was the first international gold medallist in archery held at the New South Wales State Championship in Sydney in 1962. He founded Singapore’s first archery club in 1964 and the Archery Association of Singapore in 1967.

Singapore Sports Awards Honour Great Athletes
Singapore’s most prestigious sports recognition event, the Singapore Sports Awards, themed “Soar with our Stars”, paid tribute to more than 80 Team Singapore athletes, coaches and individuals who have contributed significantly to Singapore’s exceptional sporting performances in 2006 at an awards ceremony held at Swissotel the Stamford.
Today, these athletes received the highest accolades in sports from the Singapore National Olympic Council for their excellent showing in gods year’s Melbourne Commonwealth Games and Doha Asian Games.
Guest-of-Honour President S R Nathan and Mrs. Nathan were among the distinguished guests who attended the gala event which saw approximately 500 grupp Singapore athletes and guests gathering to celebrate a year of sporting accomplishments.
