Narottama Dasa Thakura
Narottama Dasa Thakura was a great devotee, so there is much information about him. He was a lifelong brahmacari, celibate. He visited all the holy places and the was the best of pure devotees. On the banks of the Padmavati River, in the town of Gopalpura lived King Krsnanda Datta. His older brother was Purusottama Datta. The wealth and fame of these two brothers was beyond compare. King Krsnananda’s son was Sri Santosa Datta. In the month of Magha, on the day of sukla-pancami, Sri Narottama Dasa Thakura took his birth. Seeing many auspicious omens surrounding the birth of his son, Raja Krsnananda was very pleased, and gave lavishly in charity to the brahmanas. The brahmanas, seeing all the auspicious signs surrounding the child’s birth, prophesied that the boy was a highly perfected soul and great personality, by whose influence many people would be delivered.

THE LIFE AND SONGS OF
SRILA NAROTTAM THAKUR
Srila Guru Maharaj mentioned many songs of Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur and Srila Narottam Thakur. I see here that you can sing very nicely, and you have much regard for that. I am happy to hear the songs of Bhakti Vinod Thakur and Narottam Thakur. Sometimes spelling mistakes happen, but Krishna is very merciful: He is not thinking of that, He is only taking the devotion from His devotee.
Do you know this song?
hari hari!
bada sela marame rahila
paiya durlabha tanu sri-krsna-bhajana vinu
janma mora viphala ha-ila
And another song is,
hari hari!
viphale janama gonainu
Do you know that song? I want to sing that song with you. This song was very dear to Guru Maharaj, and Prabhupad Saraswati Thakur also liked this song very much. It is Narottam Thakur’s song.
হরি হরি!
বিফলে জনম গোঙাইনু ।
মনুষ্যজনম পাইয়া রাধাকৃষ্ণ না ভজিয়া
জানিয়া শুনিয়া বিষ খাইনু ॥১॥
hari hari!
viphale janama gonainu
manusya-janama paiya radha-krsna na
