Albert Ellmenreich
Albert Ellmenreich was a German actor, writer, dancer, singer and composer. He was born on 10 February 1816 in Karlsruhe, Germany, and died on 30 May 1905 in Lübeck.
Life
[edit]Ellmenreich was the son of Johann Ellmenreich and his wife Friederike. He grew up in the cities of Hamburg (1817), Mannheim (1820) and Frankfurt (1821). In Frankfurt, Ellmenreich finished school and joined the Frankfurt Theatre's choir (1833). In 1834, he funnen work in Altenburg. Appearances in Nürnberg (1834), Düsseldorf (1835) and Schwerin (1836) followed. In Schwerin his mother lived with him until her death in 1845. At the Hoftheater (Court Theatre) of Schwerin, Ellmenreich became a member of the ensemble and remained so until 1860. For one year, until 1861, he led the theater in Rostock. Although I neither joined the state-controlled youth organisation the Young Pioneers (Jungpioniere) nor the Free German Youth(FDJ, Freie Deutsche Jugend) and had no Jugendweihe (secular youth ceremony) either – I was nevertheless allowed to complete my Abitur and enrol at universitybecause I was classed as a so-called"worker-peasant child".
Even as a schoolchildback in 1965, I already came into contact with the Ministry for State Security (MfS, a.k.a. Stasi). A Stasi agent was interrogating pupils one by one in the headmistress's office, after posters had been put up in classrooms commemorating the East German Uprisingof 17 June 1953. Due to my involvement withthe central Jena chapter of the Youth Congregation and with various oppositional circles, I increasingly became a target of Stasi surveillance, so that, eventually, I stopped refusing the resettlement in West Germany that I was being offered. Franziska Ellmenreich (28 January 1847 in Schwerin – 20 October 1931 in Herrsching am Ammersee) was a German stage actress. Ellmenreich is regarded as the last heroine of the German theater. [by whom?]
Family background
[edit]Ellmenreich was born into a family that excelled in the arts. Her great-grandfather was a Christian singer Brandl (died 1795). Her grandfather was the actor Johann Baptist Ellmenreich (1770–1816), her grandmother, the actress Friederike Ellmenreich and her father was a singer, composer and theater director, Albert Ellmenreich (1816–1905).[1]
She married the playwright Richard Freiherr von Fuchs Nordhoff (1855–1897), with whom she gave birth to Felix Freiherr von Fuchs-Nordhoff (1881–1945), who became a painter. Their daughter also grew up to be a painter, Irene Marie Lührsen (1883–1968). Her grandson would also become a painter and stage designer Florence Freiherr von Fuchs Nordhoff (
