    Zhvillimi i shkathët i programit kompjuterik është një term mbulim për qasjet ndaj zhvillimit të softuerit që pasqyrojnë vlerat dhe parimet e miratuara nga The Agile Alliance, një grup prej 17 praktikuesish të softuerit, në vitin 2001.[1] Siç dokumentohet në Manifestin e tyre për Zhvillimin e Softuerit të shkathët, praktikuesit i japin rëndësi:[2]

    • Individët dhe ndërveprimet mbi proceset dhe mjete
    • Softueri funksional mbi dokumentimin e plotë
    • Bashkëpunimi me klientin mbi negociatat e kontratave
    • Reagimi ndaj ndryshimeve mbi ndjekjen e një plani

    Praktikuesit marrin frymëzim nga praktikat e reja në atë kohë, si: programimin ekstrem, scrum, metodën dinamike të zhvillimit të sistemeve, zhvillimin adaptiv të softuerit dhe të qenit i hapur ndaj nevojës për një alternativë ndaj proceseve të zhvillimit të softuerit të bazuara në dokumentacion.[3]
