Her portrayal of Regan MacNeil in the horror film The Exorcist (1973) established her in popular culture and as a scream queen, earning her a Golden Globe Award, as well as an Academy Award nomination. Linda Blair has been praised all over the world for her portrayal as young Regan MacNeil in The Exorcist, for which most of her performance she portrayed the Demon who possessed Regan, Pazuzu.

She supplied most, if not all of the dialogue for Pazuzu, but had to be re-dubbed by Mercedes McCambridge for an other-worldly, masculine vocalization.
