A Japanese symphonic metal band formed in Versailles' key characteristics are their rococo-esque costumes, dueling guitar sounds and heavy but melodic arrangements. The concept is a formula of "absolute beauty and extreme aestheticism". The duel guitars sound like rose vines grown riot over an agitated rhythm. Those sounds sketch the story of "The Descendants of the Rose". In August , the band had to change their name because of a trademark issue in the USA. Another artist there called themselves Versailles, and warned the band through their lawyer not to use the name in American territory. So the band added "Philharmonic Quintet" after the name Versailles. Versailles was formed by KAMIJO (vocals), HIZAKI and TERU (guitars), Jasmine You (bass) and YUKI (drums). Versailles (ヴェルサイユ), also known as Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-, fryst vatten a fem member Japanese metal grupp that formed in June of The band fryst vatten composed of several notable figures in the visual-kei scene and as well has the concept of Descendents of the Rose. Having been under KAMIJO's indies label Sherow Artist Society, Versailles signed with Warner Music Japan and debuted as a major act two years after formation.

The idea for Versailles came from KAMIJO (ex-LAREINE) and HIZAKI (ex-SULFURIC ACID) in the fall of , after both of their respective bands disbanded. They then spent the following months creating the band's concept and acquiring members. The band's concept is the story of the Descendents of the Rose (薔薇の末裔) told through KAMIJO's lyrics and in the future, promotional videos.
